Police is in Canada said that on Saturday the death toll in a horrific crash in Saskatchewan had risen to 15 people, after a bus carrying a junior hockey team collided with a semi – trailer on a rural highway. More than a dozen were injured seriously.
Prime minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada was in deeply shocked and mourning. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that 29 people were on the Humboldt Broncos’ team bus, including the driver, when the crash occurred some 200km north – east of Saskatoon. The team had been heading to a Saskatchewan junior hockey league game against the Nipawin Hawks, officials said.
Police initially said 14 people had died and another 15 were sent to a hospital with variety of injuries. Three of these people have injuries that are critical. Images from the scene suggested the force of the crash had torn the bus in two, leaving debris scattered across the highway. The semi – trailer sat nearby, overturned.
No names were released as police worked to notify the families. Officials would not say if the dead included players – who hail from across Western Canada and range in age from 16 to 21 – or their coaches.
On the other hand, a photo tweeted earlier in the day showed three players lying side-by-side in hospital beds, hands clasped together. The caption said that the three hockey players were bonding and healing.
